By switching to alternative energy resources for the high-performance luxury super sports cars, BMW has taken a step ahead to develop the brand’s first fully electric Gran Coupe – the BMW i4. The brand is no stranger to electric cars, be it the legendary BMW i3 or the i8. The 2022 BMW i4 is a four-door Gran Coupe that competes with Tesla Motors 3 and the Audi e-Tron GT. The vehicle is slated to hit the market later in 2021.
The beautiful example was presented in March at the BMW Group annual conference in Munich. The BMW i4 is also accompanied by a BMW M Performance model. The BMW i4 model series will be available in different versions for ranges of up to 590 km (WLTP) and up to 300 miles * (EPA). With an output of up to 390 kW / 530 PS, the BMW i4 can accelerate from zero to 100 km / h in around 4 seconds, just 0.5 seconds behind its Tesla competitor. The brand would release certain details in the coming weeks, but here’s what we can expect from the all-electric BMW i4 Gran Coupe!
“With its sporty appearance, the best driving dynamics in its class and zero local emissions, the BMW i4 is a real BMW. The heart of the BMW brand is now fully electric, ”said Pieter Nota, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for customers, brands and sales.
Powerful acceleration and long-distance comfort
As a fully electric vehicle, the BMW i4 promises fascinating dynamics, as it delivers exceptional performance values of up to 390 kW / 530 PS. The first all-electric Gran Coupé guarantees a lot of driving pleasure with a range of up to 600 kilometers * and is extremely versatile and perfectly suited for everyday use. The performance and agility are not just limited to the city. The BMW i4 is also the ideal companion for long-distance trips, as the car is equipped with a charging capacity of 150 kilowatts, which can make up to 80 percent of the car’s range in just 35 minutes. A model-specific damper technology ensures that the catapult-like acceleration represents a stimulating yet controlled driving experience without drive slip or course corrections.
The BMW i4 is a vehicle concept with optimized aerodynamics and balanced weight distribution, which enables a high degree of agility and precision – further enhanced by the fine-tuning of the drive and chassis components. The optimized suspension technology promises impressive and effortless gliding to the target, even at higher speeds and more difficult traction conditions. “The BMW Concept i4 brings electrification to the core of the BMW brand. The design is dynamic, clean and elegant. In short: a perfect BMW that is emission-free. “Said Adrian van Hoyydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.
As a fully fledged five-seater, the BMW i4 should offer optimum seating comfort with generous space for the head and legs in the rear. The long wheelbase with short overhangs and a smooth roofline determines the sporty, elegant shape of the BMW Gran Coupe. The interiors are minimalist and use different materials, creating a modern yet luxurious ambience. The warm gold-bronze accent stripes blend in with the white leather upholstery and light wood paneling and give the interior of the vehicle a high-quality touch. Overall, expect a seamlessly textured, light and airy cabin that conveys the calm and authority of this electric propulsion system.
Innovation meets minimalism
The future of infotainment is to create hands-free commands, clear systems and a reduction in the number of haptic contacts. The iDrive 8 is expected for the BMW i4 – which enables several voice commands, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 5G Mobile. The 14.9-inch touchscreen is integrated into a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel on a huge BMW curved display on the dashboard. The brand emphasizes the ease of the driver. For this purpose, every element at the front of the cab is trained on the driver – the front part of the interior around the BMW Curved Display Majors in a reduced design.
The 2022 BMW i4 has not yet been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Road Safety (IIHS) – We hope the brand offers the latest in driver assistance technology. The brand hasn’t officially launched the price of the car, but it is valued at $ 50,000.
