Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano ran over a cyclist while shopping after escaping isolation after a positive Covid-19 test – before attempting to apologize for his actions by saying he was wearing a mask.
The former AC Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk player, who now plays at Palmeiras in his home country, was found positive for the virus in routine tests at his club on Monday.
The 33-year-old was supposed to be quarantined at home for 10 days, according to the club’s rules, even though he was asymptomatic.

But, as he explained in an Instagram post, Adriano left home to drive his mother to a mall to go shopping.
Despite insisting that he wear a mask and not leave his car, the player collided with a bicycle while exiting the parking lot and left the driver treated for a bloody face.
A Twitter video was created in which Adriano stands on the sidewalk while the cyclist lies on the ground and is treated by a paramedic.
Adriano admitted his error of judgment in an Instagram post on Wednesday, writing, “I was ordered to stay in a quarantined house … but yesterday I went to the supermarket in the mall to see my mom who can’t drive without I get out of my car and wear a mask.
“But I was involved in an accident in which a bicycle hit the car at the exit from the parking lot.

Adriano will miss the Supercopa do Brasil final against Flamengo this Sunday.

He was punished for his Covid-19 violation with the money donated to a food charity.
A spokesman for the player said: “He did not drive recklessly, he gave all the support and attention to the victim who is recovering and in good shape.”
Brazil has been hit very hard by Covid-19 with the death toll of over 313,000 people, ranking second in the world after the US. There have been over 13 million cases of the virus in the country.
