With its “Lexus Concept Reveal Show” in March 2021, Lexus presented the world premiere of “LF-Z electrified, “A BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) concept car. This car symbolizes the next generation of legendary luxury automakers and will be part of a vehicle portfolio that caters to the diverse needs and lifestyles of customers around the world. Lexus, including BEVs, PHEVs, HEVs and other electric vehicles, is committed to introducing 20 new or improved vehicle models by 2025 to introduce a new, diverse range of products.
The further development is nothing new for this luxury brand, as Lexus has always maintained an unyielding spirit of innovation in order to present its customers with the latest products. With global change and the social mission of carbon neutrality and adherence to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the luxury landscape has evolved and Lexus has promised to continue evolving into a brand that embraces the Exceeds customer expectations.
“As we fulfill our social mission to achieve a carbon neutral society, we will continue to deliver the fun and excitement that cars bring and we will contribute to the happiness and smiles of our customers and everyone involved with Lexus, ”said KOJI SATO, President and Chief Branding Officer, Lexus International. This began with the introduction of the RX 400h – the world’s first luxury electrified model – in 2005 and continued through its nine models of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The LF-Z Electrified concept combines different driving performance, design and futuristic technologies and has a new all-wheel drive control technology called “DIRECT4”. This new all-wheel drive force control technology uses the instant responsiveness of the drive force of an electric motor to freely control the four wheels of a vehicle for superior and highly flexible driving performance that sets it apart from conventional vehicles. The design of the concept car too strongly emphasizes the uniqueness of Lexus Creation of an extended human-machine connection.
Equipped with a Tazuna cockpit and an open and minimalist design, the LF-Z Electrified develops the Lexus Driving Signature with AI that learns the driver’s preferences and behavioral characteristics. The digital key and the E-Latch system make operating and exiting the vehicle child’s play, while a touch panel in the middle of the roof connects the front and rear seats for communication between passengers. Those who sit in the back seat, despite not getting the thrill of driving a car, will enjoy the reclining rear seats that come with a massage function. Another unique feature is the car’s panoramic roof, which uses electrochromic glass and comes with entertainment features like dimming for privacy and shade or lighting to reflect the passing night sky.
By optimally positioning the battery and motors, the LF-Z Electrified concept achieves ideal balance and inertia with a lower center of gravity, which leads to the Lexus DNA of quietness and driving comfort. DIRECT4 technology also enables a suitable propulsion system – front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive – for any driving situation, and the use of steer-by-wire allows the vehicle to turn with less steering angle – and more precisely – in response to driving conditions.
Lexus plans to introduce 20 new or improved models by 2025, including more than 10 electrified models such as BEVs, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and HEVs based on the concept of having the right products in the right place at the right time.
