Paris (Reuters)-Bank of England Barclays (LON:) has hired Laurent Meyer from French rival Societe Generale (OTC:) to become the new vice chairman of Barclays Bank’s European Investment Banking Division.

Barclays Bank said on Thursday that Meyer will focus on driving revenue growth in European investment banking, with a focus on providing mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and equity capital market advice for clients in France and Europe.

Meyer has been working at SocGen for the past 23 years, and most recently he served as a senior banker responsible for covering and developing relationships with a large number of global strategic customers.
